Empowering Women in Construction: Jade Townsend’s Journey from Pharmacy Aspirations to Utility Locator at S&N

Happy Women in Construction Week!

Virginia “Jade” Townsend: Utility Locator new to the industry

A graduate of South Caldwell High School, Jade took classes at Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute (CCC&TI) to obtain an associate degree while working towards becoming a pharmacist. But realized she preferred to work outside and have travel opportunities. Jade always knew she wanted to help people in some way. The Line Worker program offered a great opportunity to still help others while doing something she enjoyed. Going through the Line Worker school had difficulties due to her height and how small she was, but thanks to the wonderful and experienced instructors, they worked to find ways for her to do things easier and more efficiently. Overall, the class ended up being a great experience, and Jade thoroughly enjoyed it and the type of work being performed. She is now an underground utility locator for S&N!

Quote from Jade Townsend: “Utility locating is a great way for me to still work outside, have travel opportunities, while being less strenuous. Locating still lets me help others by helping to make sure contractors make it home safely and homeowners using our utilities don’t have their service interrupted.”
