Girl Power Expands to Eastern North Carolina

On Wednesday, October 8th, Nash Community College in Rocky Mount, NC, hosted the first-ever Girl Power event held in the eastern part of the state. Over 30 young women from five different schools took part in this exciting, hands-on learning experience.

The event was made possible through the collaboration of S&N Infrastructure, Appalachian State University, Nash Community College, Statewide Utilities, CEEUS, River City Construction, and the Statewide NC Electric Cooperatives.

Throughout the day, students learned about a variety of career paths within the utility industry, including overhead bucket operations, switching and telescope stick demonstrations, fiber networking and splicing, underground procedures, and a crowd favorite — pole climbing. Many students tested their newfound skills with enthusiasm and confidence.

The Girl Power initiative was originally launched by VMDAEC in Virginia in 2021 and later expanded into Salisbury, MD. With support from VMDAEC, S&N Infrastructure introduced this inspiring program to North Carolina in 2025, launching the first event at Caldwell Community College’s Lineworker Program in Hudson, NC.

Since then, the program has seen tremendous growth and participation across the state. We’re fortunate to have two outstanding training facilities at Caldwell Community College and Nash Community College — leading the way in empowering the next generation of women in utilities.
