Girl Power has officially made its way to Florida!

Girl Power has officially made its way to Florida!

Girl Power is more than an event S&N Infrastructure supports; it’s a program we believe in and are proud to help grow. Yesterday, we were honored to join an incredible group of partners in bringing that mission to Lake-Sumter State College in Sumterville, Florida, where 36 young women had the opportunity to get a firsthand look at careers across the energy and infrastructure industries.

Our S&N Infrastructure team, David Barrett and Brian Morehouse, introduced students to the world of fiber infrastructure, walking them through how fiber is installed, how it is spliced, the role it plays in the systems we rely on every day, and why contacting 811 before excavation is such an important part of protecting underground infrastructure.

But the bigger purpose of Girl Power goes far beyond demonstrating equipment or explaining how the work gets done.

It’s about showing young women that there is a place for them in this industry. A place to build a career, learn a skilled trade, lead, innovate, and help shape the infrastructure our communities depend on.

We’re grateful to Lake-Sumter State College, Get Into Energy, the Florida Energy Workforce Consortium, Duke Energy, Lakeland Electric, and all of the professionals and organizations who helped make this event possible.

We’ve seen firsthand what Girl Power can do when industry and education come together, and we’re proud to help bring that opportunity to even more young women.

Florida was another step forward. And Girl Power is just getting started.
